When did you start doing CrossFit? November 2016
What is your favorite CrossFit Movement and Why?
Snatch, while it is definitely one of the hardest movements, I feel as if it encompasses many body parts for me.
What is your least favorite CrossFit movement and why?
Box Jumps!!!! My shins look like they have been hit by a freight train from biffing it so many times. It is definitely a movement that challenges my mind. “Mind over matter!”
What is your sport, health or fitness background?
I have played sports my entire life. I grew up in a football family with 2 brothers (I am the middle child). I could either sit on the sidelines or get involved with them. When my brothers weren’t on the field playing, we were playing in the back yard. This made me a pretty tough kid. I played soccer, basketball and softball from middle school to the end of high school. After high school, I “jogged” and did light lifting in order to keep in shape.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it and how did it feel?
Amy Delforte, a good friend of mine got me into it. I remember my first visit with her as a guest. Stefan was the coach and he made me feel as if I could do this. Most of my workouts are with Stefan. He not only guides me, but he pushes me as well. All of the coaches are like that! Sarah, Amy Jo and Jenn are super awesome as well.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? (Before and After)
I am so much stronger than ever before! I had always thought I was “in shape.” But nothing compared to how I feel now. The biggest change I have seen is in my outlook on life. I am much happier after I leave CrossFit. Everyone there is so inspirational, motivating, and encouraging. Prior to the WOD, I am like, “oh sh–! This is going to stink.” Then I get through it. CrossFit definitely challenges your mind and physical capabilities.
Share with us your favorite Canandaigua CrossFit memory/moment?
Participating in last year’s Murph. I was so nervous and didn’t think I could do it. However, the best part of CrossFit is that you can modify to your abilities. Everyone was absolutely incredible. I totally felt as if I belonged. I also cannot express how much I adore EVERYONE at Canandaigua CrossFit! Between the laughs, words of encouragement, and friendliness, there is no better place to be a part of.
Do you have any advice for people who are just getting started?
Don’t compare yourselves to others! This took me a long time to overcome. I was constantly looking at what everyone else was doing; how much weight they were lifting, what their time was for a WOD, etc. We all are at different stages in our athletic abilities, as well as ages. There are so many variables. The only comparison you should make is to yourself. I always tell myself, “Be better than the day before.”
Outside of CrossFit what other hobbies and/or talents do you have?
I talk a lot!!!!!!!! I love being with my family, dogs, and friends. They are my everything!
