Coach Spotlight: Lori
What is your philosophy towards being a coach? In your opinion, what makes a good coach?
Being a good coach entails keeping clients engaged and inspired while pushing them beyond their comfort zone(s). Building confidence and a belief in themselves to achieve a certain level of “self-awareness” in mind body and soul. I truly think taking care of our bodies with healthy choices weaves through all areas of our lives.
Why did you become a CrossFit coach?
I’m not a CrossFit coach. I’m a cycle instructor at our box. Cycling just clicked for me at my first gym and as I got healthier I knew I had to do this and wanted to get certified. When I joined CDGA CrossFit Linda Bombard mentored me and (in her most awesome way) said “just get up there and Do it” that was that! I love all the energy a cycle class evokes with music and intense cardio! Yes, we do see “Jesus” in cycle class too!! Ha!!
Where did you grow up/Where are you from?
I was born in Canandaigua’s Thompson Hospital. My dad was a pro-bowler for the first 2 yrs. of my life so we traveled a lot in a Winnebago. I lived a gypsy sort of life.
Have you ever played any sports?
We moved a lot so team’s sports were not available to me but I loved tennis, volleyball and ice skating. Tennis was my favorite!
What do you do for fun?
For fun I play triathlon! But I also like running around singing dancing and being really loud with my granddaughters. Spending time with my grand kids is what I enjoy most. I also enjoy a little gardening and interior design.
What are you passionate about (other than CrossFit)?
I’m passionate about helping people overcome diversity. I’m passionate about helping the underdogs and the misfits. Oh ya… I can’t forget about hot fudge sundaes and those wonderful granddaughters of mine.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Actually wanted to be a marine biologist. I was in love with Jacques Cousteau and wanted to be his assistant of sorts. But also A movie star.
If CrossFit didn’t exist, how would you pay the bills?
I am a self- employed “Home Harmonizer” I assist people with keeping their homes organized and if needed clean.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside?
I’m a summer soul. I love all things related to summer. Beach sand running, riding my bike outdoors, music festivals, concerts, BBQs and chasing sea-gulls with my grand kids.
