Coaches Spotlight: Jen Fehrenbach
What is your philosophy towards being a coach? In your opinion, what makes a good coach?
I think just practicing what you preach; leading by example. I absolutely love CrossFit and I hope that my enthusiasm for it bleeds out of me while I’m coaching. And listening and observing. Everyone walks in to the gym with different goals and backgrounds. Being able to get to know all the members on that level and to help them work towards whatever goals they have is definitely a driving force in why I wanted to be a coach.
My three favorite quotes as applies to coaching/training/life are:
Set your life on fire, seek those who fan your flames
Actions speak louder than words
A coach is someone who gets you to do what you don’t want to do, so you can be who you want to be.
Where did you grow up/Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Bath, NY
Have you ever played any sports?
Yes! Lots! I played soccer, basketball and ran track in HS. I played soccer in college as well.
I was inducted in my HS Hall of Fame for track and also the SUNY Fredonia Hall of Fame for soccer
What do you do for fun?
Anything that involves spending time with my family.
Eating wings and having drinks @ the Greenfront
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A meteorologist. I was obsessed with watching The Weather Channel and tracking storms. Then I barely passed earth science and realized it probably wasn’t meant to be.
If CrossFit didn’t exist, how would you pay the bills?
I’d still keep my current job working in real estate. The houses are fun, the people are awesome and I get to tap in to my background in marketing and feel like my college degree wasn’t a complete waste of money!
What I wish I figured out earlier is:
How much I enjoy lifting. I was always so scared to lift weights and get ‘bulky’.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside?
I love going for walks. Doesn’t matter where; the woods, a neighborhood, the beach, etc. I just like to walk and take in the scenery around me and get lost in my thoughts. And I also love to play pick-up soccer games any chance I can get with my kids or anyone willing to join in!
